It can take a long while for us to accept what is a struggle for us, what consistently poses a challenge. Sometimes it's easier to fight with oneself, an inner dialogue which takes place underneath the one that's going on in front of us. The one that says, "YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THIS!" AND "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU??"
They're powerful voices. Loitering around the gates of midlife is when those voices, the ones which compete with everything meaningful that you'd like to be partaking in, can begin to take a flying leap.
Try this: "I am one who struggles with..."
"_____ is a real challenge for me."
A simple acknowledgment of the truth can overtake the shadows and shoulds. To declare the Truth at any moment puts a person back in power.
For all of our struggles, there is a counterbalanced trait in us made up of something wonderful. A flaw or shortcoming has it's origins in a reasonable enough place. Let it be.
Let yourself be whole, flaws and all. It doesn't mean that anything is impossible.
